The Gambia welfare society is a registered charitable Incorporated Organisation with a vision to achieve vibrant and sustainable community which centres around continuous engagement, participation and collaboration with various communities, agencies, and other government bodies.
The Gambia Welfare Society acquired Oak House by commercial rental agreement in 2018 to serve as a community hub, for the various activities the organisation embarks upon, all geared towards the delivery of sustainable community advancement, cohesion, and positive integration of the diverse sections of Leeds society.
Promote social inclusion for marginalized communities, helping them overcome challenges & integrate into society for sustainable, meaningful livelihoods
Support young people in developing skills through educational, recreational, and sports activities, empowering them to contribute positively to society.
The Society supports the Leeds community with dispute resolution, outreach services like visiting the sick, and funeral assistance for those in need.
Through various programmes and activities that the organisation arranges for the community, we work tirelessly to ensure maximum safeguarding of children, the vulnerable, families, faith groups are maintained to ensure safe and free from harm environment is available whilst, compliance to legislative guidelines are strictly observed.
The organization is dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all members of the community. Through diverse programs and activities, it safeguards vulnerable individuals, families, and faith groups by adhering to strict legislative guidelines. Services include social inclusion programs for new migrants, emergency shelter support, and educational and recreational activities for youth to foster positive societal contributions. Additional programs address community needs, such as knife crime education, bereavement support, food bank operations, and health awareness (e.g., diabetes and cancer). The center also provides free financial, cultural, and practical guidance, including job application assistance for EU migrants and support for community rituals and conflict resolution.
The Gambia Welfare Society (TGWS) fosters children’s development through interactive activities that promote independence, compassion, and moral values. Weekly sessions at Gambia House help build strong character.
The TGWS "Conversation over Attaya" project unites women from diverse backgrounds in Leeds for weekly gatherings focused on socializing, skill-building, and mutual support, fostering community connection.
The Sunday football project boosts youths' wellbeing through sports, promoting cohesion. Other initiatives include a food bank, classes, youth club, holiday trips, and winter support, alongside knife crime education.
