Empowering Our Community: Fire and Electrical Safety Workshops at Gambia House

As the Project Coordinator for these workshops, I had the privilege of organizing two important community sessions at Gambia House in Leeds, sponsored by Electrical Safety First. These workshops were designed to raise awareness about fire and electrical safety, ensuring that our community is better equipped to prevent hazards and protect their homes.

Fire Safety Workshop with Leeds White Watch

The first workshop was led by firefighters from Leeds White Watch, who provided a valuable discussion on fire safety and prevention. They shared practical advice on how we can keep ourselves and those around us safe from fire hazards. One of the most impactful parts of this session was that attendees had the opportunity to sign up for free smoke alarm installations by the fire service. This simple yet crucial step can save lives, and I was so pleased to see community members taking advantage of this offer.

Electrical Safety Workshop with Optima Electrical

The second workshop was delivered by Jen Blancow from Optima Electrical, and it was an incredibly informative session on electrical safety. Jen explained how to identify potential electrical hazards and provided advice on keeping our homes and families safe.Attendees also had the opportunity to sign up for a free electrical safety check by a professional from Optima Electrical. This was a fantastic offer, ensuring that homes meet safety standards and reducing the risk of electrical fires.

A Call for More Community Engagement

Both workshops were highly beneficial, and I could see how much our community members gained from them. There is always something new to learn, and sessions like these provide valuable information that can help save lives.

I strongly encourage more people to attend future workshops. These events are not just about learning; they also provide access to free safety services that can make a real difference in our homes and daily lives.

I look forward for more sessions like this in the future, and I hope to see even more community members getting involved. Let’s continue working together to make our homes and community a safer place for everyone.
