Bradford, September 13, Five distinguished members of the Gambian community in Leeds proudly represented the Gambia Welfare Society at the BBC Radio Leeds Make a Difference Awards 2025, held at the prestigious Bowl Room in Bradford.
Yanks Sawo, Nuha Ceesay, Amie Kolleh Darboe, Bakary Njie, and Halimatou Khan were in attendance at the ceremony, which celebrates individuals and organisations that have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact in their communities.
The Gambia Welfare Society was one of four community organisations nominated for the Community Group Award, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to improving lives across Leeds. The nomination honours the Society’s ongoing commitment to supporting not only the Gambian community but also fostering inclusion and well-being across all backgrounds.
This acknowledgement by BBC Radio Leeds highlights the invaluable work being done at grassroots level a testament to the dedication and compassion of those working quietly behind the scenes to uplift others.
