Overview
The Gambia Welfare Society is proud to report the successful implementation of our Weekly Food Bank Initiative, funded by a generous £5,000 grant from Forum Central’s Household Support Fund. This project was designed to provide essential support to low-income families, unemployed individuals, refugees, and asylum seekers living in our community.
How the Funds Were Used
To ensure that the support was inclusive and culturally sensitive, the funds were allocated as follows:
• Supermarket Food Vouchers:
We purchased food vouchers from Aldi and Kashmiri Ethnic Supermarket, allowing service users to choose items that meet their dietary and cultural needs. This approach empowered families to shop with dignity and flexibility.
• Energy Support:
A portion of the funds was used to top up pre-paid energy meters, helping households maintain access to electricity and heating during challenging times.
Impact
This initiative has had a meaningful impact on the lives of our service users:
• Over 54 families received food support.
• 28 households benefited from energy top-ups.
• Feedback from recipients highlighted increased food security, reduced stress, and improved wellbeing.
Target Beneficiaries
The project specifically supported:
• Families on low income
• Unemployed individuals
• Refugees and asylum seekers facing financial hardship
Conclusion
Thanks to Forum Central’s support, The Gambia Welfare Society was able to deliver vital assistance to some of the most vulnerable members of our community. We remain committed to promoting dignity, inclusion, and wellbeing through practical support and community engagement.
We welcome future partnerships and funding opportunities to continue and expand this essential work.
